Overview of the Fresh CNIC Process

Applying for a first-time (fresh) Smart CNIC follows a fixed six-step sequence at your nearest NADRA Registration Center (NRC). Knowing each step in advance — and what's checked at each one — helps you avoid the back-and-forth trips that slow most applicants down.

Step 1: Visit the Center and Get a Token

Arrive at your nearest NRC and collect a token from the kiosk or reception desk. Tokens are generally issued on a first-come, first-served basis, though some centers allow booking a slot in advance through the Pak-Identity portal to reduce waiting time.

Step 2: Submit Your Documents

Present your Union Council Computerized Birth Certificate as the primary document, along with your original Form 'B' and an attested copy if one has already been issued. A NADRA representative reviews these at the reception desk before moving your case forward.

Step 3: Biometric Enrollment

Once your documents are verified, you'll proceed to biometric enrollment. This includes a photograph, fingerprint scan, and — where available — an iris capture. This biometric data becomes your permanent identity record within NADRA's system.

Step 4: Family Record Verification

Your application is checked against your family's existing records to confirm the parent-child link, marriage registration, and other family tree details. This is the stage where most holds occur if a parent's CNIC has expired or if family details don't match across records.

Step 5: Fee Payment

Once verification is complete, you select and pay for your preferred processing tier:

Processing TypeFee (PKR)Delivery Time
Normal75031 days
Urgent1,50015 days
Executive2,5007 days

Step 6: Processing and Tracking

After payment, your application enters processing. You'll receive a tracking ID that lets you monitor your card's status — Received, In Process, Dispatch — either via SMS to 8400 or through the Pak Identity app, right up until it's ready for collection at your chosen NRC.

Bringing your documents already attested and having your family details cross-checked beforehand can turn this into a same-day process for straightforward cases.
